I have been thinking

recently about all of the differences in my girls personalities. They are really showing now that M is getting older. How can 2 beings created from the same set of genetics be so different in personality? This also started me thinking on recent observations in the girls weight history.

Here is a break down of weight from birth: (all weights are on the same scale, except birth)
M
birth-6lbs 12ozs
2 wks.-7lbs 3ozs
2 mo.-12lbs 1oz
4 mo.-13lbs 15ozs
6mo.-13lbs 8ozs
9mo.-16lbs 1oz
12mo.-17 lbs 11oz
15 mo. - 20lbs 10ozs

G
birth-5lbs 11ozs
2 wks.-6lbs 1oz
2 mo.-10 lbs 5ozs
4mo.-12lbs 9ozs
6mo.-14lbs 7ozs
9mo.-16lbs 5ozs
12mo.-17lbs 4ozs
15mo.-around 18lbs

M continues to gain steadily and G started flattening off on her gaining around her 12 month mark. Coincidentally (or maybe not) G went on a nursing strike around 11 months old. Silly me, not knowing any better I thought she was weaning. I now know that children can not self wean until at least 18 months of age. I stopped offering the breast out of ignorance, so in essence I did the weaning. G did not reach 20 lbs until around 22 months. M also had a nursing strike around 11 months, but this time I knew better. Now, at 16 months our nursing relationship is as strong as ever. Would G weigh more than her mere 25-26 lbs. now (3 years,3 mo old) had I continued to breast feed her? I will never know, but it does make me think.

wow--okay those weight's are crazy. I can't believe how small G is for 3 years old! I don't know as much about extended nursing as you at all....I'll admit that right off. But I tend to think that her weight does not have to do with nursing if she quit at 11 months. But your the Mom and the Mom always does know best:) And I really think L self-weaned...he started trying to quit at 10 months. I ALWAYS offered it and he just grew to where he refused it altogether. And Since he was close to a year....I finally stopped offering it after about 2 weeks of refusal. Maybe he would have started again had I kept trying, but since I was fine with the timing I didn't.--sorry for the book!

Amanda - that was the same with G. I finally stopped offering. It worked out well for us also because along came M. I LOVE them being 22 months apart (now!) and had G continued to nurse I'm sure I would not have been fertile yet.
