Sick Day

I am home today with both girls. G was running a fever Friday night and Saturday due to a sinus infection. She is on an antibiotic and feeling much better. M woke up Sunday with a fever of 102 - no symptoms. We think that M's fever is due to her cutting her 3rd tooth and a reaction to her MMR shot she got a little over a week ago. We looked up the side effects on this shot and 1 out of 6 children run a mild to moderate fever and the fever usually shows up 7-12 days after the shot is administered. 1 out of 6 - that is ridiculous. We delay some vacs so the girls are getting less shots at once, but are still choosing to give all vaccinations. If I was able to stay home with my girls I would seriously consider not giving all the vacs. But this post is not about vacs.

It is about the wonderful day the girls and I are having. Both woke up happy and feeling well this morning. I had already gotten my sub plans ready and the district had secured a sub, so I was not going to cancel. Besides, since both were running a fever over the weekend they could certainly use another day at home. We got out the finger paints - and yes, with both girls. I guess my previous post needs to be changed now! M tried to eat the paint every time I put a new color on her paper. Next time she will finger paint with vanilla pudding with added food coloring for different colors. M sat in a chair just like big sis! G finger painted one paper then asked for a paintbrush to paint 2 more. It has been a fun and relaxing day so far. It is nice to have a sick day when neither kid is feeling crummy and we get to enjoy the day!!!!

Ahhh, now you said the magic word - vax. So I have to tell ya', the MMR can usually be separated. I say "usually" b/c Merck has just recently decided to NOT make the separate shots. Hmmm, wonder why? Not hard to figure out with all the controversy surrounding what's actually in them.

Fortunately, Cade had his separate. We had to hunt down Rubella at his 3 year b/c my pedi was all out. (Found 'em at Trinity Pharm in Carrollton) I HATED his reaction to the Mumps. It was horrible. Fever and horrible nightmares for a couple of days.

I highly recommend the book, The Vaccine Book, by Dr. Sears. Its an unbiased look at each vax and its super easy to read.
