Sleeping with a 2 year old, more specifically mine, just doesn't happen. The following is setting up the past events that led to the night of no sleep. Daddy has been in Las Vegas (at a Computer Science conference) since Wednesday. He had Freshman orientation at school until 8:30 Tuesday night, so G only saw him Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning for about 30 minutes. My mom came up on Wednesday to help me out with the girls. Thanks mom, you're the best! I had Parent Orientation at work on Thursday night until 8:00, so I only saw the girls Thursday morning for about 30 minutes. Both girls were angels on Wednesday and Thursday, then all hell broke loose yesterday. Grammy made dinner Friday night (chicken spaghetti and steamed squash - yummy!) and Grandma also came over to visit and eat dinner with us. It begins. G refused to sit in her chair and eat. When Grammy and Grandma were done eating they decided to go into the living room to see if that would help. G gobbled down almost 3 helpings of chicken spaghetti after that and then went and played. I bathed Madeline while Gabby was playing. Then, it was G's time for a bath - she pitched a fit because she didn't want a bath. Too bad, she got a bath anyway. I finally got her PJ's on her. I nursed Maddie and put her down for the night. It is now 7:30 pm. G goes through her night routine brushing teeth, dancing one song, stories and bed. Bed - ha, ha. She cried, she screamed, she held her breath to the point of her lips turning purple. I had to go upstairs to her room several times to soothe her. Finally around 8:00 she calmed down and was playing in her bed. She fell asleep around 8:30. 10:00 she woke up crying. I went up to comfort her. This went on about every 15 minutes until finally at 11:00 I made a decision to bring her into bed with me. Ha - she thought it was play time. I tried ignoring her, but she was determined to have a conversation with me. She would ask, "Mommy, are you hearing me?" When I didn't answer, she would grab my cheeks and turn my face towards hers, climb on top of me, or just talk even louder to make sure I heard her. Around 12:45 she decided to climb out of bed and head to the living room where she yelled, "Mommy, come play with me." I knew there was no way she was going to go to sleep in my bed. I took her back upstairs - crying by now of course. I was so exhausted by this point that I was contemplating a little whiskey - for her and possibly a lot for me too. (I really would never give her anything, but it sure did cross my mind.) I got the baby monitor to M's room and crawled in bed with G upstairs. After about 20 minutes she fell asleep. I woke up about 4 am and went back to my bed. G woke up crying again at 5:30, so I headed back upstairs again. She fell back asleep until about 6:45 and then dozed on and off until 8:00. Maddie woke up at 8:00 (ahh, thank goodness she slept) and we went downstairs to begin our day. So far the day has gone surprisingly well. I was expecting G to be very naughty today since I know she is overly tired. We will see how long she naps and how the afternoon goes. Matt will be home tonight, but not until after the girls are in bed - well, hopefully they will be in bed. I can only recall a few other sleepless nights with G - one was her first ear infection, one she was up all night with a stomach bug, and one we were out of town. I'm not used to this - even when the girls were newborns I think I got more rest than I did last night.

Oh my! I'm sorry you had such a rough night with Gabby. Allie has only had a few nights where she doesn't sleep like Gabby and it always through us for a loop! I hope she sleeps better tonight. Maybe with Matt being home things will be better.
Oh--the joys of parenting! YUCK--and all in the first weeks of school:(
