Well technically no butterflies yet, but hopefully next week they will emerge from their cocoons! The girls have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We began our fun by making button caterpillars with, you guessed it, buttons! Add some googly eyes, and they are really cute!

Our caterpillars molted for the last time and formed their chrysalis, the girls got very excited for this change. We visited the library to get some great non fiction books to help learn about their life cycle. We also discovered some great fiction books about caterpillars too!
Miss G can really go into detail describing the metamorphosis that a butterfly goes through, and Miss M does an interesting job telling what she is learning also!
We transferred the pupae to their net habitat. The girls collected leaves attached to small twigs so that the butterflies have a place to lay their eggs and to simulate a more natural habitat. In the next couple of days we need to put in a couple of caps of sugar water so the butterflies can get nourishment once they come out of their cocoon. Look for the arrival of our butterflies coming soon!
